MUSE

In honour of my new boots, All Hail Alison Mosshart.

MID-HEELED GLORY

The Task: to find a pair of mid-heeled boots that aren't laced up or lined in sheepskin. More difficult than you would think. The Result: these beauties from River Island. Comfortable enough to march around in all day, cool enough to make me feel like Alison Mosshart. Mission Accomplished.

GET A LOAD OF THESE BAD BOYS...

Topshop are on FIY-AH with their bags at the moment!

THE SIMPLE THINGS

Watching the Bruce Springsteen documentary "The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town" made me yearn for a simpler wardrobe - they all oozed cool in their classic plain white t-shirts. Bruce makes a better clothes-horse than most though - I don't think I could pull off the sweaty chest in the first pic with such aplomb! Resolution : I resolve to attempt a simple white t-shirt outfit once weekly.

AUTUMN

Let's face it - The King's Speech is going to pick up an Oscar or two. And deservedly so - I loved the film and was absolutely enthralled by Hoopers use of colour to reflect the personalities in the film. The wall in Logues practice had a personality all of it's own - "decorated in distressed browns and oranges like an exotic damaged fresco, if in autumnal colours. When the team arrived, one area was covered in wallpaper infused with oil, which had then been half-scraped, half-burned off. Eve Stewart, the production designer, loved the mottled, peeling effect so much that she decided to reproduce it across the whole wall. The room became so striking that very little furniture was required, and the almost empty set gives the actors space..."

OMBRE HOMBRE

I'm probably a bit behind on the times here but I'm taking the plunge and going for an ombre hair colour this weekend. I have had the same hair style and colour for nearly ten years now so I'm engaging in an inner battle on whether to go for the softer shades of caramel and mocha or just bleach the gosh darn heck out of it! Fingers crossed that I (A) pronounce 'balayage' correctly in the hairdressers and (B) don't end up looking like I partially fell into a tub of bleach.

PALETTE

The colour palette in Topshop at the moment really floats my boat - all the rusty oranges, mustard browns and peaches of the decade with none of the rash-inducing polyester!

KNUCKLE CLUSTERS

I see photos like this and I go home and put on all my rings at the same time. And it just looks wrong. Wrong, wrong, WRONG! I'm hoping it's like many a trend that seems, at first, to be a bridge too far - jumpsuits, clogs, turbans, all of these involved a nervous first-outing and are now staples in my wardrobe. Maybe today's the day.

THE LIGHT AND THE HALF LIGHT

How has FrouFrouu evaded me for so long? I just came across this blog today and not only is the style inspirational, but the photography too. No poorly framed outfit posts here, but dark, atmospheric, dramatic images full of muted but luxurious colours and burnished golds, each one could be part of an editorial. I have to get a camera. And that paisley sweater in image 4.

TASTE THE RAINBOW

Someone who knows about my infatuation with rainbow colours gave me a tasty birthday rainbow bright treat!

SOMETHING MORE COMFORTABLE

Maybe its the post-Christmas Couch Potato in me resenting my forced eviction from my dressing gown (and the sofa) but I am loving the Winter Kate kimono-style cardigans. The bright colours and patterns are beautiful, perfect for a January lift - though I also covet the Jasmin Crepe Cardigan in Grey Frankie print, draped over Purse n'Boots above.
